Jay's personal letter to you:
Hi! I am Jay Asher, singer-songwriter, and I am very pleased to be performing my tribute to Burt Bacharach and Hal David at the Songwriting School Of Los Angeles, where I teach Logic Pro X, on January 21, 2020. Guest singers TBA.
Composer Burt Bacharach and lyricist Hal David formed one of best and most unique songwriting teams of the late ’50’s through the early ’70’s. Academy Award and multiple Grammy Award winners, they are in the Songwriters Hall Of Fame and received the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from the Library of Congress. While both had successful careers after they split up in 1973, it is their work together that remains the most enduring and beloved.
I first became aware of them from a 1962 Gene Pitney album I bought that they produced, and Burt arranged, that featured several of their songs called “Only Love Can Break A Heart” and only The Beatles rivaled them with as many songs I loved, and that remains true today.
Among their most famous songs are a bunch recorded by their primary interpreter Dionne Warwick, like “Walk On By”, “I Say A Little Prayer”and “Do You “ Know The Way To San Jose?”, and of course “Alfie.”
But you probably have also heard “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head”, “This Guy’s In Love With You,”, Close To You”, “The Look Of Love”,”One Less Bell To Answer” and “What The World Needs Now Is Love.”
In addition to performing the songs, I have lots of interesting and amusing stories I will share with you and I am certain that when the evening is over if you are not already fans you will be, and if you are already fans you will be bigger fans of this remarkable duo who are part of Pop Music history.
See you there!
