If your life were a song, what's the title? Answer that in the mentorship of a Multi-Platinum country songwriter and write an EP worth of songs this Fall.
Multi-Platinum selling songwriter & class instructor Kevin Fisher observes, "At its heart, country music is about the human condition. It’s about our highs and lows, our struggle between the spirit and the flesh; it’s about love and leaving, fun and family, beer and tequila."
Starting with the premise of “write what you know,” we’ll write or re-write a song every week in various sub genres of country music: Traditional, Bro Country, Bluegrass, modern, etc. We’ll focus on story-telling, character development, conflict and resolution. We will explore concepts of the music itself: harmony, melody, and structure.
By class end we will have written a 5-song EP over the course of 9 class meetings, 6 in person and 2 online (or 8 online for online students).
There will be opportunity for regular feedback on songs. Additionally there will be extensive critical listening assignments, special guests, and actionable insider strategies for an outsider to navigate the challenges of pitching songs in Nashville.
A member of the Fall 2015 class signed a publishing deal with McJames Publishing after meeting the head of the company in the class.
