This class covers all the skills you'll need to record a song in Pro Tools: to take your projects from the idea stage through arranging and tracking to the completion of a finished mix. We delve into the various functions of the Edit and Mix Windows, Audio and MIDI Editing, Effects Plug-ins and approaches to Mixing, all from the prospective of the Songwriter.
From week to week students will record a song, building the arrangement, while applying the Pro Tools features discussed each week, in the service of the song. In the final week the class will meet in the studio, where we will examine the process of translating a Pro Tools session from a laptop to a Pro Studio environment.
This class puts Digital Recording skills in your hands as a Songwriter, using methods that are driven by the philosophy that the technology should serve the Music, and not the other way around!
Class meets 6 Wednesday nights, 7:30-930pm, starting 3/7/12. Tuition = $349.
Students must bring their own laptop with Pro Tools 8, 9, or 10 installed, appropriate interface (if necessary--PT 9 and PT 10 require none), and headphones. Or if a student prefers to, one can simply attend, observe, and take notes and do the work on a home rig.
SPECIAL OFFER FOR SONGWRITING SCHOOL STUDENTS: Through a local merchant partner, students of this class at The Songwriting School can purchase the academic version of Pro Tools for more than $300 off the retail price. That means you can take the class AND buy PT 9 for about the same price as just buying PT on your own. Call 818-848-7664 to find out how, or go ahead and register now.
