Taught by Alan Roy Scott. Among the many artists who have recorded his songs are Celine Dion, Luther Vandross, Cyndi Lauper, Gloria Estefan, Roberta Flack, The Allman Brothers, Sheena Easton, The Neville Brothers, Pat Benatar, Patti LaBelle, The Pointer Sisters, Rick Springfield and Johnny Mathis.
His TV/Film credits include songs used in First Wives Club, Top Gun, Coming To America, Karate Kid II, Fame (TV show), Rags To Riches, Santa Barbara, As The World Turns and Beverly Hills 90210, among others.
But Alan is more than a commercially-successful musician and songwriter. He has has a powerful vision: to unite a world community bonded by the collaborative creation of music.
With his "Music Bridges A.T.W." events, he has created original events around the world. In the late 80s he initiated "Music Speaks Louder Than Words," the historic summit of US and Soviet songwriters which included artists Diane Warren, Brenda Russell, Cyndi Lauper and Michael Bolton. Then, "Country and Eastern" featured a collaboration of American, Romanian, Czech and Slovakian songwriters. "Pacific Harmony" was a musical excursion to south Asia, with artists from Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Australia, where Alan was joined by The Scorpions, jazzman Dave Koz and hitsmith Allan Rich. The Songwriting School of Los Angeles is honored to have Alan teaching this course.
Special guest, Hit Writer Maria Christensen ("Waiting for Tonight", Jennifer Lopez and numerous other credits, see below), learn a variety of techniques and strategies, tackle real-world assignments, meet and write with collaborators, and grow as a writer--both with others and on your own.

This program is especially for me if I. . .
- have always wanted to co-write but have never tried before
- would like a safe, professional setting in which to work with a number of different writers
- would love a real-world opportunity to write with and for emerging artists who are special guests
- feel confident in my own writing and want an opportunity to grow and improve
- am feeling stuck in my own work and could use a jump-start of creativity
- have been hoping to network and collaborate but have not found like-minded people
- want a positive, respectful, and constructive arena to find potential collaborators
- want to learn the professional aspects of the business of collaboration
- want real-world assignments (members of the summer session placed their co-write on a visiting artist's record!)
- realize that many of my favorite songs were written not by a single writer but by co-writing teams, and now I want to become part of a productive, successful creative tandem
